Welcome

Joomla the Project. How do they make Joomla anyways?

Welcome back to my Joomla ecommerce internet radio show. This is your host, Bob Bloom, in Toronto, Canada.

Today it is my pleasure to introduce you to Ian MacLennan. Ian is a co-founder of Joomla Users Group, Toronto; and, is a member of the Joomla Leadership Team.

Ian, thanks for being here. How are you?

I want to thank everyone who listens to my shows; and, especially, for contacting me with feedback -- both complimentary and critical.

Main

Joomla Users Groups:

  • how start one
  • small group must meet at least once per year
  • no paperwork, some online forms

JoomlaDays:

  • local
  • usually run by the local JUG
  • New! "Expo" type events run by Joomla Team in the works

Open Source Matters:

  • the legal entity for Joomla
  • a U.S. tax entity
  • books the website ad revenue
  • manages legal issues
  • there's an OSM Board of Directors

Two new Joomla Teams:

  • Community Team manages non-development aspects
  • Production Team manages Joomla development
  • used to be just "core team

Third Party Developers

  • write Joomla extensions
  • to list these extensions on Joomla's Extension Directory, there's a nominal vetting process prior to listing

Ian had quite a number of juicy tidbits throughout the show. He ran right to the 30 minute wire. Excellent job, Ian.

Please note that there are two main Joomla websites:

Joomla.org

Open Soure Matters.org

And of course, twitter.com/joomla

Closing

The JUGSWO has not yet announced a meeting. The April JUGT meeting is in the works.

The New York City JUG will have a meeting on April 8th.

A topic that intrigues me will be discussed at their June meetings:

SVN/GIT discussion has been moved to the June meeting,
Mitch Pirtle will present SVN and GIT, including best practices for developing websites using SCM (Source Code Management) tools

Ian, something for our Toronto meetings.

Next Thursday Johan Jansenns will join me to talk about his Nooku Framework. See you then!
