This is Bob Bloom, coming to you live from Toronto, Canada.
Today is Thursday June 17th, 2010.
Our show is dedicated to Joomla ecommerce.
Today is our season finale show, with my Round Table talking to the authors of the Tienda ecommerce extension, the Anahita Social Engine, and the Nooku Framework. Lots of people are here today.
We have 4 summer shows scheduled, starting on Thursday July 8th.
Our fall season kicks off on Thursday, September 16th.
A special thank you to my Round Table of Guests, who helped put together today's show.
We have 10 guests here, plus me. First, let me re-introduce you to my Round Table:
Alice, how are you!
ALICE: My name is Alice Grevet...
ALAN: This is Alan Langford. ....
DEREK: This is Derek Heck...
FAISAL: This is Faisal Qureshi...
JOE: This is Joe Sonne...
BOB: Joining us today are:
Rafael Diaz-Tushman, author of Tienda (profile);
Ash Sanieyan and Rastin Mehr, authors of the Anahita Social Engine (profiles);
Johan Jansenns, co-author of the Nooku Framework (profile).
JOE: Rafael, welcome to our show and thank you for being here. How are you? What is Tienda?
RAFAEL:
FAISAL: Ash and Rastin, thank you for being here. How are you? What is the Anahita Socia Engine?
ASH & RASTIN:
DEREK: Johan, thank you for being on our show. How are you? What is the Nooku Framework?
JOHAN:
BOB: I want to play a 31 second clip from the June 3rd JoomStew show, at BlogTalkRadio.com/JoomStew. This is Amy Stephens:
"Both with Nooku and Tienda... seeing the next generation... bigger than what Joomla's been traditionally".
Times are changing, and not in a small way! We should not underestimate the magnitude of these changes.
ALAN: A great number of extensions don't fully embrace the Joomla framework. Some introduce new template sub-systems, some simply bridge to their own portability layer. This presents many challenges to site builders, forcing them to manage multiple coding techniques and styles; and it makes it more difficult to re-use code when integrating extensions. The question is: what deficiencies in the core cause people to use alternative systems, and what can be done to correct them. Or, if this isn't a core issue, how can we discourage the practice and get developers to write more truly native and reusable code?
JOHAN:
ASH & RASTIN:
RAFAEL:
ALICE: Why does Anahita install its own template default? How does this work? Does it co-exist with the default template?
ASH & RASTIN:
RAFAEL:
JOHAN:
DEREK: Anahita and Dioscouri are Nooku partners. Dioscouri is an Anahita partner (http://anahitapolis.com/partners). Are there plans to rewrite Tienda with the Nooku Framework? Are there plans in the works to do something with Anahita and Tienda together?
RAFAEL:
ASH & RASTIN:
JOHAN:
FAISAL: Nooku has a number of installation requirements. One is the use of MySQLi. What other requirements are there?
JOHAN:
ASH & RASTIN:
RAFAEL:
JOE: VM was created for Joomla! 1.0.x and was never optimized for 1.5. It seems that there is serious pain for admins and owners of Joomla! ecommerce components when transitioning through major version changes. How will Tienda keep users from jumping from it's platform to yet another newer one that will be built specifically for the next Joomla! version(s) upgrades?
RAFAEL:
JOHAN:
ASH & RASTIN:
ALAN: There's a new post on the Joomla forum (http://forum.joomla.org/viewtopic.php?f=46&t=525885) annoucing "KoJo -- a new RAD Framework for Joomla 1.6". This post says, ""Have you ever wanted an swift, agile, RAD framework like RoR, Django, and CodeIgniter. You can have that power inside Joomla using KoJo!". What does this mean, and what are the implications?
JOHAN:
ASH & RASTIN:
RAFAEL:
BOB: Rafael & Vika, was there anything else you wanted to mention before we wrap things up?
RAFAEL:
BOB: Ash & Rastin, was there anything else you wanted to mention before we wrap things up?
ASH & RASTIN:
BOB: Johan, was there anything else you wanted to mention before we wrap things up?
JOHAN:
Thank you, everyone, for being here today.
After a 2 week break, my Round Table joins me on Thursday, July 8th to share their thoughts on what's going on with Joomla ecommerce.
We'll see you then!
