Here's Andy's May 08th interview with phpBBweekly.net (1hr 20min):

Welcome

This is Bob Bloom, coming to you live from Toronto, Canada.

Today is Thursday May 13, 2010. We are here every Thursday at 1:00pm eastern time to talk about Joomla ecommerce.

Andy Singleton joins us today. Andy, how are you!

Andy, I was thinking of just re-broadcasting your phpBB Weekly podcast. You did a great job on that show.

Andy, you have an interesting profile on Assembla.com.

You graduated from Harvard in applied mathematics and then started your career as a hedge fund analyst. You helped start a securities firm, founded a web consulting firm, and fast-forwarding ahead, founded Assembla.com. And because you are not busy enough, you have children too!)

Now, I'm going to play a clip from your recent interview on phpBBWeekly dot net. This is your past coming back to haunt you.

You were asked to describe Assembla.com. Here is your terrific initial 1 minute, 15 seconds:

key excerpt (25 seconds):

Andy, a magnificent answer.

Andy, I am fascinated with your response to rejecting outsourcing. You didn't seek local programmers. What you did was study how open source teams work.

What sparked you to study how open source teams work?

What did your observe?

What did you conclude?

What did you end up doing?

Let's hear a 25 second exerpt -- this is gold, my dear listeners, gold:

(describe Assembla.com )

Agile Development is not just for programmers. The cost of using such sites is so nominal, and the benefits so huge, that it's worth using. However, you have to start before you really need it, so when the pace of development accelerates, you are there.

Andy, you mention on your blog that "Joomla and the other PHP portals like Drupal and Wordpress are an interesting case, because it is not easy to build staging and production configurations from a repository". This is a definite barrier to use. I also find the actual use of Git a barrier too. Things have to simplify for site owners and consultants. What do you think?

Closing

Andy Singleton, thank you for being here.

Next Thursday another Andy, Andy Miller of RocketTheme.com, joins me to talk about the Gantry Framework. How do we use Gantry in Tienda?

See you next week!
